Mrs Claus

Hi Everyone, How have you all been?  I've just come back from a weekend in Echuca which is 4 firsts for me 1. First visit to Echuca 2. First time seeing the Murray River 3. First time in Victoria and 4. First time on a Paddle Steam Boat!  We went there for my husbands Aunties 90th Birthday. I made her an exploding box card and she absolutely loved it!  She reckons I will have to make one of those for every family members special birthdays 😁  It was a great weekend catching up with his family there.

Well I made a Mrs Claus as I couldn't have Santa all alone.

I think she is just adorable!  What do you think?  If you would like to make one of her here are my instructions.  Let me know how you go, send me a pic of your finished Mrs Claus.  I would love to see them!

Instructions
The pieces you will end up with....

Card base - Real Red cardstock 27 x 10.5 cm or half A4 lengthwise

Blouse and Bonnet band – Real Red cardstock 10 x 10.5 cm
From the bottom measure up 6.5 cm on each side and place a mark. Line up the marks with your plate & draw the curve (on the reverse side of the cardstock so you can’t see your markings). Then measure up another 2.5 cm on each side and place a mark and again line your plate up with the marks, draw the curve. Cut along these lines. Emboss the Larger piece with the Softly Falling embossing folder using the end with the most concentration of dots.

Blouse Collar – I don’t have the Layering circle framelit dies so I used the largest circle with the scalloped edge that came with the retired circle dies. I cut one out then this is where it gets fiddley. Line the circle up on top of the blouse piece, the edge of the circle runs about 3 cm down the side and line up with the middle of the blouse trace the curve and put dots where you need to cut too.

Then do the same for the other side.

Brooch – For this I also used the retired circle dies, the 2 smallest ones. I put them together evenly, the smallest inside the larger one and run through the bigshot then adhered a piece of the Whisper White 5/8" (1.6 Cm) Polka Dot Tulle Ribbon behind it. You could punch using the 1” punch first then use the smallest die for the centre. I found it too hard to line up in a punch to punch out the middle.

(It’s great for using up all your scrap bits of cardstock)

Bonnet & Hair – Whisper White Cardstock 9 x 10.5 cm
Measure up 6 cm from bottom put a mark on both sides, using your plate line up the dots with your plate and trace the curve, then measure up 2.5 cm on both sides and trace the curve (curved towards the bottom of you piece of cardstock). Cut along the traced lines. Emboss the larger piece with the Softly falling embossing folder using the end with the most concentration of dots. Emboss the smaller piece with Swirls and Curls textured impressions embossing folder, then cut in half.

Face – Whisper White Cardstock 6.5 x 10.5 cm
Dab the sponge in the Powder Pink Ink pad and using circular motions starting off the cardstock and working your way onto the cardstock until you have coloured the entire piece.

Eyes - Punch 2 out using the 1/2” circle punch using the chalk marker draw his little highlights or you can draw them after you have glued them on.

Nose – Punch out 1, ½” circle and colour the same as you did for her face.

Glasses – Punch out a 1” circle and cut in half. Cut 2 strips about 3 – 4 mm wide and long enough to hide up under her hair.

Bonnet decoration - Using the Peaceful Poinsettia stamp set and dies use the little holly, cut it out and colour using the markers.

Mouth – Using the Real Red marker (thin end) draw her mouth. I always draw lightly in pencil first to make sure I am happy with the curve and size etc.

Putting it together – adhere the collar onto the blouse, and then adhere the brooch on in the middle where the 2 pieces of the collar meet.
Adhere the bonnet band onto the bonnet then adhere the holly.
Adhere the face panel onto the card base (about 4 cm up from the bottom is where the bottom of the face piece will be.
Adhere the blouse onto the bottom of the cardstock.
Adhere the bonnet onto the top but leaving enough room for the hair to slide up underneath so don’t glue all the way to the bottom edge. Take your 2 halves of hair. Using one half adhere it into position it by starting from the middle of the bonnet out to the edge, you will need to trim the excess that hangs over the edge of the card. Do the same for the other side. I always use tombow for this as it gives you time to manoeuvre your pieces into place.
Adhere the eyes onto the back of the glasses leaving a little more than half looking over the glasses, don’t forget to mark the eyes with the Chalk marker. Adhere into place on the face, leaving room for you to slide the nose and glasses arms underneath. Take the piece for the glasses arms and measure how much you will need for some to tuck under the glasses and the hair. Mine was about 3.2 cm. Adhere these into place. Then adhere the nose by sliding up it up under the glasses.
Draw the mouth and you are finished!
